"The New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards were first adopted by the State Board of Education in 1996. The standards describe what students should know and be able to do upon completion of a thirteen-year public education."
As you look through this site, you will see what the student expectations are in each subject at each grade level. When you begin to write lesson plans, you are required to refer to these standards.
Take a look around and pose any questions you may have about these standards; by the end of your program (senior year), you will be expected to thoroughly understand them.
You may want to ask your cooperating teacher if you can take a look at her/his lesson plans...
